Woman in kitchen | 2013

This 3' 20'' video shows a scene from a kitchen where the stove flame is on.

On the same stove, pictures of different parts of women's lives in the Arab villages of Khuzestan have been displayed using a video projector, and at the same time, the mourning sound of these women can be heard, as if they have brought all their pain to this crypt and are shouting. The purpose of making this video art is to show a part of the lives of women who fall victim to capitalism, landlordism, and patriarchy. Education, freedom in choosing a spouse, and in general, the individual and social freedom of these women, endanger the social and economic interests and goals of the tribe. As a result, women are kept in homes and kitchens so as not to enter a world beyond the tribe.

This artwork does not merely show the problems and limitations only in the Arab community of Khuzestan, because women in different geographical areas, according to the customs and laws of their people and society, struggle with these pains and limitations in different ways. But as a southern woman, I have tried to portray the pain of women in my hometown through this video.
